60 Day Claim Rule

Discussion in 'Suggestions' started by 2019, Nov 11, 2019.

  1. I wanted to make a suggestion about the rule that was added yesterday but was instantly removed yesterday due to player feedback/complaints.

(AKA, I think the rule should be added back but just modified)
The rule was "You're not allowed to sell claims within 500 blocks of a new warp for 60 days"
I personally think players should still be able to buy claims but just not sell. I tried saying this in chat yesterday but alot of people kept saying "isn't that the same thing though" but it really isn't

What I mean is an advertisement saying "Selling claims at jungle warp for db" shouldn't be allowed, but "Buying claims at jungle warp for db" should be allowed. If the player who is trying to sell a claim try to be sneaky by msging a player in-game or forum/discord about selling a claim first, the other player can report them which will lead to punishment. But if a player msg's a player about wanting to buy a claim, that is allowed.

I don't see an issue with this expect the player who is selling a claim doesn't get reported if they msg someone out of game but it's at least better then nothing since there are a lot of people atm claiming warp and selling it for profit and is getting out of hand.

  2. I think you're confused too what I'm suggesting about the rule.
I suggest you should be able to still buy claims, just not sell if the rule was added back.
From your first reason, the 45 day rule still apply so if they don't build anything then you can request the claim to be removed. If the owner of the claim develops there claim and choose not to sell then that's there choice as you said in reason two.

  3. I don’t think that that exact proposed rule would work, but something needs to be done regarding this because %50 or more of claims that are gotten are immediately sold off for profit. It’s a very common practice right now and just makes players wanting to legitimately have fun and make a shops live so much harder. Last night when claims were released I saw a solid 5-10 msgs about selling claims every couple of minutes. It’s getting out of hand, players are getting dia of the sole practice of getting in between someone’s project and a claim.

  4. The 60-day rule will not work. People claim if something isn't built within 45 days the claim will expire, but to keep a claim from expiring you barely have to do anything. This will lead to people building tiny things that count as a "build" and keep their claim from expiring and the warps simply won't develop for 60 days.

Example: Last map I had a claim at Frozen Ocean, about 2/3 of an admin claim, ~1.5k claim blocks. All I did was build a ~7x7 cookie shop that sold cookies 1 per iron nugget. I popped 9 stacks in then didn't do anything with it for a year, but the claim was safe from the 45-day rule since it "served a social purpose" as it had a shop. There are many ways like this where you can keep a claim past the 45-day rules quite easily. Implementing a 60-day rule wouldn't lead to more players building, only the warps remaining stagnant for an extra 60 days when players could sell their claim.

  5. I just don't think any rule like this will work out well. Even if you did manage to find some elaborate rule that would work it would still be impossible to properly moderate.

    1. How in the world would staff be able to keep track of all these claims and what is done with them? Trading claims benefits both players so no one would report it and they would most likely lie if asked about it making it a pain to deal with and enforce.

    2. 60 days isn't going to stop people from getting claims just to sell them as it would only just delay them. It would also mean that players will be more likely take advantage of the horrible current 45 day rule where literally anything counts as substantial making it untouchable.

    3. A rule like this would just seriously halt the development of warp claims as people ALWAYS buy/sell claims at warps in order to help expand and grow their areas so that they can build what they want. If you are unable to do that it will just lead to a lot more small empty undeveloped claims where little is done. That's why newer warps often look more messy compared to older ones as they have had less time to develop.

    4. Not everyone can get on when warps open or have a good enough internet/PC to be able to get land there. Selling claims like it or not provides options for a wider range of players to be able to get warp claims. Sure people claiming just to sell is bad but my god is it better than that land just going to waste needlessly.

    5. I like how a rule like this which would be incredibly difficult to moderate got through but not one that would deal with the serious issue of claim abusers who ran rampant on the last world and arguably cause a much bigger issue at warps.

    6. If a rule like this were to be implemented it would be just as problematic to regular players as it would be to the people actually causing the issue. Why should regular players be punished due to the actions of a few people? Also chances are a rule like this would cause way more uproar than what is currently happening now about claim sellers. It just means there is little point if it's going to annoy more people.

I get the frustration when you see people getting big claims which they only ever intend to sell but that is seriously better than them just sitting on it doing nothing for 60 days. Selling/trading land is essential to the development of warps whether you like it or not and I'm shocked how little staff or players understand that. You want more active warps? You want a wider range of people to get land there? All you need to do is fix the numerous current issues with the claim system people have been complaining about for ages.

  6. Maybe limit players where they can only claim 1 or 2 warps

  7. I think I get what you're saying 2019 and I agree with you in general. Advertisements that pop up literally 2 minutes after warp release with "Selling xxx claim 1000 DBs" can feel irritating especially if you were trying for a claim that you intended to keep. I never claim something with the intention to just sell, so I do feel the frustration about those who are simply trying to flip their claims.

However I would agree with the above that this is entirely on the mods to warn people against advertisements, and although it does some public chat good of clearing the messages it would be another form of enforcing rules against advertising - with the added problem of mods having to know when 60 days has passed for each individual. Pretty complex and problematic for a small benefit imo.

Even if I personally disagree with claiming with the sole intent to sell, it's not really something I can reasonably stop so I'm ok players do as they like.

Would be hard to enforce, because their friend could give it a claim to them for free.

  9. Maybe 10k claimblocks at a warp per person?

Kinda unenforceable with alts plus it all seems very controlling to me at lest.

  11. True enough, it’s hard enough for mods to manage this needy playerbase as is. It just feels wrong how these people advertise their claims minutes after getting them without being asked

  12. You could just as easily say that about event items.

  13. Indeed, except event items represent hours of work or effort, or a earned win, when a claim represents being online with a gold and 2 sticks.
